Latte Animation
I started this animation back in 2018 out of boredom in my first semester of collage. Before that time I was working in a coffee shop 30 minutes from home. I learned a lot of things about coffee there and meet some amazing people. As an Indonesian I don't know Indonesia is one of the biggest coffee producing country in the world. But, even with the numbers of production, the numbers of consumption is still low. So I was inspired a lot by coffee at that time and decided to make a latte animation. I don't have a powerful computer for animation so I decided to use a drawing software and made it frame by frame (not literally, just a little change in every frame) and later compile it as a video.
The Story Board
Originally I make the storyboard on a piece of drawing paper. But I lost it and I decided to recreate it to give the ideas of how the original artwork was planned. I try to picture how to make latte step by step with a simple style. I started with 6 panels.
In these panels (from left to right) the steps are poring grinded coffee to the portafilter, followed by flatten the coffee, and then tamping the espresso. after that use the espresso machine with the portafilter attached to it, the next step is make froth or steam the milk. The last step is to pour the milk into the espresso.
The Drawing
After several hours drawing I end up with 75 drawing. Although there are not exactly 75 frame because I re-use some of the drawing for the repetitive section in tampering.
